Training Your Golden

This is what happens to a lot of Golden Retrievers that receive NO training.
Through no fault of their own they end up at the County "pound" because the owners couldn't control the dog. The owner had no time to train the dog of course, so it has to be the dogs fault. Could you imagine a world where no one had time to "train" their children? Training a dog to be a good family member is fun and so worthwhile.
Don't let your dog end up where Jenny (above) did because you couldn't spare 10 minutes a day!

This is a Golden that was turned into rescue for being "wild and out of control". Does this dog look uncontrollable to you? Of course not. She was adopted by a wonderful family that took her to obedience classes and the ENTIRE family took the 10 minutes a day it takes to turn an unmanageable dog in to a cherished family member. The key words here are "entire family" and their commitment to work with the dog.

We at Golden Rescue in Naples would like to encourage everyone who adopts a dog from us to attend at least a basic obedience class with their new dog, no matter the age. A structured class is a great opportunity to socialize and bond with your new pet.

Okay...you're convinced so how do you go about finding a "good" school and what training techniques should you use? There are many out there!  Ask around! Talk to your friends who have had dogs. Ask us, we'll be glad to point you in the right direction. Go and WATCH classes before you ever enroll. Talk to the instructor and other students. We do recommend that you stay away from instructors who use harsh training techniques.

At the left you will find links on training techniques and on how to find what will work best for you and your dog. HAPPY TRAINING!
