5/4/11 We are all very sad today. Our special needs golden girl Summi has left us. She no longer struggles to breathe. Her cancer finally won but not before she had the best and most wonderful 2 1/2 months of her life. We have Laurie Jeremias and her family to thank for loving her as their own and accepting the challenges that came along with taking care of a dog in the end stages of her life. To the end, Summi enjoyed life to the fullest the way all Goldens should.

Meet Lucy, Archer and Teddy Bear !
We lovingly call them our Permanent Foster dogs. Because of illness, age, and not wanting to cause more stress and upheaval in their lives, GRINinc. has decided that in the best interest of each dog, Lucy, Archer and Teddy Bear will remain with their foster homes until the day they travel to the Rainbow Bridge. We give the utmost thanks to the foster families ...the Murphy Family, the Greenough Family and the Gargioulo Family. These dedicated families provide daily love and attention to their foster dogs and give everything they possibly can to enrich their foster dogs' life. The responsibility of Golden Rescue In Naples is to keep in touch with the families regarding the status of their foster dogs and to provide any veterinary care when needed. In order to provide the exceptional veterinarian care that these dogs so deserve GRINinc. has to maintain it's treasury through donations. We look to you, our golden friends, to help us assist these senior and special needs goldens by generously donating and sponsoring a dog. UPDATE ON TEDDY BEAR 12/2010:

As you can see Teddy Bear and family are decked out for the Christmas season. Teddy Bear or "Ted" has been with his permanent foster family for almost two years now and he is doing wonderfully well. He is so happy. His foster Mom, Irene, and foster Dad, Carlo, say that he and his GRINinc golden sister, Gidget are "amazing ....they make us smile and laugh everyday!"

Teddy Bear continues to visit his veterinarian for senior check ups. We estimate his age to be at least 12 yrs! Thanks to your generous sponsor donations (including many generous donations from Teddy's foster family), GRINinc continues to do our very best to make sure Teddy and others are given the very best veterinarian care.!

UPDATE ON TEDDY BEAR 03/2010:
Teddy Bear continues to touch everyone's heart. He is a soft, gentle boy with a constantly wagging tail. He has survived so many changes in his life....he is all settled in now with his foster parents, Carlo and Irene, and knows that he will spend the rest of his life in happiness. Teddy Bear is a relaxed, contented oldie goldie.

TEDDY BEAR 2010

GRINinc first heard about Teddy Bear, GRINinc dog #164, back in 2006. His owner had asked us to come and get him....they no longer could care for him due to his severe allergies and ear infections. Once we took Teddy Bear in we learned what a delightful personality this older boy had, but oh was his skin and coat in bad shape. Short, course hair, sores everywhere and ears that were badly infected ..so infected they were almost completely closed. Teddy Bear remained in our foster home until we finally found a wonderful, older man who had lost his golden a short while ago. He was very lonely ... he was ready to have Teddy Bear as his life long companion. They went everywhere together, totally bonded. His skin and ears were improving, but it took a lot of expense and diligence on his owner's part. Sadly, Teddy Bear's owner passed away in 2008. Teddy Bear went to live with family but soon found himself not wanted there, so the family called GRINinc again. Teddy Bear lost his home for the third time.

Fortunately, the Garguilo Family was ready to take Teddy Bear that day. Teddy Bear still has allergies and occasional ear infections, but for all that he has been through at age 12+, he is doing okay and is very happy with his foster family. Teddy Bear will never be moved again....he will never feel the sadness and depression of abandonment ever again.... The following is a paragraph written by his foster family.....

"Teddy Bear is a delight. When he first arrived he was a bit sluggish and very reserved. I think that was residue from being separated from his companion (owner) passing away. I say this because in just a brief period of time we discovered the boy is soooo handsome with that beautiful white face, outgoing and intelligent. He loves "his people" , he loves his people's friends, loves play dates with doggy friends, and he tolerates his little sister Gidget. She can be pushy but he lets it fly.

Teddy is perfectly happy with a nice long nap and loves to be brushed and petted. He also loves music. I'm not kidding in the morning after his breakfast he just looks at me like I've lost my marbles until I turn on the radio. When the radio goes on he sighs and puts his head down for a nice morning nap.

We love him, he loves us, what else does one need?"

UPDATE ON LUCY 02/22/11:

Lucy, our redheaded golden girl, has passed. Lucy came to us as a stray in 2007. She was named Lucy after the "I LOVE LUCY" show . She was full of energy, love and happiness. That strength and a will to live has enabled her to be with us much longer than we ever thought. Lucy has battled inoperable cancer for three years. Her foster family, John and Sally Murphy, have been wonderful to Lucy for those many years. We cannot thank them enough for their dedication and love. John has been very ill himself ....he recently came home from a long hospital stay after major surgery. Lucy waited for him to come home...to make sure he was alright before she left this earth. Our goldens are amazing creatures...they fulfill our lives with selfless love, unconditional love. Lucy is now an angel....she will be watching over the Murphy family making sure all is well.

UPDATE ON LUCY 06/26/10:

Lucy has a new little act in the morning. She will lay on her back and wiggle till I come over and scratch her tummy.

UPDATE ON LUCY 03/2010:
We saw Lucy at our 2010 GRINinc Reunion and she looks wonderful. Her coat is beautiful, her weight is perfect, there is a shine in her eyes and she is very much in love with her foster parents, John and Sally. Lucy continues to keep her cancer at bay.
Lucy is a lucky oldie goldie.

Lucy, GRINinc dog #254, came to us in 2007. This feisty, redheaded senior girl was found as a stray and taken to a high kill shelter. GRINinc rescued her and had to do quite an extensive veterinary work up. She was missing patches of hair and she was very dirty with extremely long nails. It was obvious that this girl had been neglected for a very long time. She had NO manners...and didn't know what the word "no" meant...in fact, we thought she was hard of hearing since she paid no attention to commands of any kind. Because of her energy level and the care that she needed, we moved her to a second foster home....and here she has stayed and will remain.

Once settled in, we noticed that the lump on her leg had really grown and it was infringing on the movement of her leg. We aspirated this lump again and found it to be a very large, invasive mast cell (a form of cancer that can spread to other parts of the body). Lucy underwent a long, tedious surgery to remove the lump, but because of its size and place the veterinarian most likely did not get it all.

The prognosis for Lucy is guarded but because of the Murphy's loving care and the diligence towards Lucy's health, she is doing very well. We have decided not to do any type of cancer treatment for several reasons. Lucy remains very happy with her surroundings...she knows some commands now, she has two canine siblings and people who love her very much. She has a full life for however long we will be graced with her presence. By the way, she was named Lucy after Lucille Ball and the show I LOVE LUCY ....... WE LOVE LUCY TOO!

UPDATE ON ARCHER 07/2010:

Archer on vacation: Archer and foster family recently had the pleasure to visit a wonderful mountain home in Boone NC for a summer vacation.

Archer had plenty of exercise...walking those mountain trails and swimming in the streams.

After the fun filled day, he just had to rest in the very comfy chair!! What a lucky golden boy!

UPDATE ON ARCHER 03/2010:
Archer is doing very well. We saw him recently at a fundraiser and he was busy walking through the crowd of people, interested in letting them know he is there to get LOTS of attention! He is feeling well despite his unsteady gait which doesn't slow Archer down. Archer is a happy oldie goldie with his foster parents, Bridget and Norm.

Archer, GRINinc # 283, was found abandoned on a lanai in the middle of the summer of 2008. From what we can tell, he was outside by himself for several days without food and only pool water to drink. Archer was skin and bones, very smelly, bad ear infections, covered with fleas and ticks. Had this sweet golden boy not been rescued, he would have died in a very short time....all alone. Enter our foster Mom, Ms. Wilson, who turned our messy, sad looking golden into a handsome, happy boy. Still thin, still in the veterinarian's office all the time for ear infections, this golden boy remained a real trooper. He eventually lost his hearing due to the long time chronic ear infections. People were hesitant to adopt Archer...he was about 8+...a very "old 8" with health issues ...a very high maintenance dog. Archer was ALWAYS at the veterinarian's office for something. Archer was finally adopted, but we found his needs were not being met so he came back to his original foster home. We found another forever home for Archer...all was going well...he appeared to be happy....but little did we know that his health would take a real turn for the worse. All we know is that Archer seemed to have a "stroke"...a severe stroke that left him walking like a "drunken sailor". His new "Mom" also recently had health issues and she found that Archer was just too much for her to take care of with his current health status.

Fortunately, a family from Archer's past stepped up and agreed to take Archer into their home as a foster dog for the rest of his life. Archer is doing better...he is on Prednisone and he is happy. We don't know what caused the "neurological event", but we won't be putting Archer through extensive, invasive testing...he need not go through anymore. What we will do is make sure that he is loved, well cared for and happy. We want to thank the Greenough family for being there for Archer and Dr. Stacey Huber and staff for the wonderful veterinarian care, and we need to really thank Archer's original foster "Mom", Ms. Wilson, for bringing Archer to life. Although it seems Archer has had a rough go of it, he is a very fortunate dog to have some many people love him.

Our organization is a full-service golden retriever rescue, which means that we take in, Goldens and sometimes golden mixes ranging in age from very young to very old in need of rescue efforts.
